I noticed while watching the british old comedy show red dwarf that signs in the hallway have different things written below them and I googled it, and it's because Red Dawrf (the ship) is bilingual.

I love that show and it helped me discover Esperanto!
(this one is the first time I noticed it. "level" and "nivelo"

Welcome! If you're interested in the use of Esperanto in film, you might like to know that the satirical film The Great Dictator, starring Charlie Chaplin, has a scene with street signs in Esperanto. There is also an Esperanto-language announcement in the film Gattaca, and the actor Mike Sloper speaks about making background Esperanto recordings for the film.

There are only a few films made entirely in Esperanto, but as an example, here's William Shatner using Esperanto in the horror film Incubus.

There's some other Esperanto in Red Dwarf, in episode 1 of series 2 (when they meet Kryten) we discover that Rimmer is trying to learn Esperanto and there's some dialogue at 4:50 here and at 7:40 here. I think it gets references in some other episodes too.

Apparently there's a joke that Rimmer has been trying to learn Esperanto for 8 years but has failed miserably rideto.gif

I've seen incubus, it was very surreal.
And yes, I've noticed when Rimmer says "bonan matenon!" and has esperanto subliminal tapes.

Rimmer fails at learning so hard it's funny "esperantinos" (women who hope?)

Mariah_A:"esperantinos" (women who hope?)
Yes, that's right. Keep it up, and you may soon be able to understand Incubus with little or no help from the subtitles! For learning Esperanto, though, a better film is Gerda Malaperis!, which uses almost the same dialogue as the story, which you can read on-line on this website in stages.

Perhaps those of us who get to a certain stage in our studies should be awarded "The Arnold Rimmer Award" for exceeding his (lack of) skill in the beautiful language. rido.gif

I didn't watch the whole video but maybe the real word should have been

FUĜKAPSULO

and they just missed the diacritic out.

Obviously nobody told them about the alternative:

FUGHKAPSULO
