I'm sure that everyone's familiar with the picture of a snowy owl with the caption "O RLY?". I've searched for an Esperanto version, but couldn't find one, so I made one myself. Enjoy!

(Edit: I'm not sure if the file attached...

"ĈU VRE?"
is what I would have gone for (considering "Cxu vire?" makes no sense, just as "Oh ralley?" makes no sense in English).

But FTW!!!!!1!! FUWWY SICK M8!

(BTW - could "HO VRE?" work, given that in writing we have the question mark, and just as there is no real set "tone" for asking questions in EO, no one every says /rli:/ in English, so the complete disregard for rules balances out?)

I don't think a standard for misspelled Esperanto has developed yet, so it's pretty much up to your imagination. I wouldn't drop the accusative too quick though, it's what gives Esperanto its own character.

Laŭ mi "Ho, ĉu vere?" estas iomete pli bone lango.gif

Mi efektive uzus ikso-sistemon.

Why?

Rogir (Profil anzeigen) 12. Februar 2010 10:47:56

Because the people who write grammatically correct Esperanto usually also use the hatted letters, and vice versa.

Nice point Rogir - because the English version shows an English word spelt horribly quickly with total disregard for vowels, having the x system in place in writing would work quite well at "converting" the... messiness lango.gif

BTW people, what sound do Esperanto owls make? If it's anything like "ho" then I'd definitely replace "cxu" with "ho" just to keep in character (while we're on that topic, what sound do ENGLISH owls make? Hoo hoo? I've never really seen a real owl before, though I have seen a kookaburra on the table I was eating at, but I'm guessing owls don't go and laugh).

This is a great idea! Now we need to repurpose some other memes — like LOLcats.

For the owl, to keep things simple and close to the original, I'd suggest: O ĈU?

I just want to let everyone know that I made an LOLCat in Esperanto some months ago --and yes, I think it's hilarious...

Don't judge me! rido.gif
