ok thanks, in spanish there is more than one kind of "play" and I worried it might be the same in esperanto

You could also say "Mi muzikas per gitaro" I believe.

Also, "Mi gitarumas" is OK. okulumo.gif

I think you could even get away with "mi gitaras".

I think "mi gitaras" could also mean "I am a guitar" but I'm sure the context would show that the person speaking clearly isn't a guitar.

Could make for a good supernatural mystery twist though - "Mi gitaras...." "Hn? Vi sxatas gitaroludi?" "Ne.... Mi gitaras" (have a couple of extra chapters, eventually people find out the spirit-ish entity doesn't play guitar but is in fact haunting a guitar, and there you have it, all the ground work for a story arc in a Japanese comic).

I would advise against using it that way. When a verb is made out of a noun root that is some kind of tool or instrument the meaning is virtually always "to use that instrument". The implied esti is more for adjectivial roots, and even there the meaning often goes beyond a mere "is" relationship (as in "ĝi bluas", it radiates blueness, more than simply being blue).

Yeah I thought so too, but wasn't too sure. The "estas" use is more when it's something that can't really be used instrumentally or have a sort of blurred meaning (like with blui), e.g. Mi homas, yes?

ceigered: Mi homas, yes?
