Almost everyone I know says "X mankas al mi". I know a couple of people who say "Mi sentas la mankon de X" (and I even say it myself on occasion) but I don't think it's common.

sudanglo:The obvious verb to use here is 'manki'. If you are speaking on the phone with an absent girl friend, then (I concur with Erinja) say 'Vi mankas al mi'.
In my case that would be letter-writing, as the telephone is unfortunately not an option. Although it is in English, where native speakers are more abundant, should I be in doubt about the correct expression!

Probably doesn't matter if you say X mankas al mi or Mi sentas la mankon de X in retrospect. After all, if the person you're speaking to can only understand one and not the other, then there's a lot more important communicational problems that need to be sorted out before you start saying "I miss you" in another language to them ridulo.gif
