Hey,

Often I want to express an IF ... THEN ... clause in terms of verbs with tenses and end up contorting them into IF Z WOULD ... THEN Z WOULD ... clauses.

Is it valid to use another tense in a Se ... clause?

If you (already now) have a handbag, then come here.

Se vi havas mansako, venu ĉi tien.

Here's some examples I just read:
"se preni ĝin kiel ilon, tio iĝas armilo"
"Se tiu estas bona, okazos nenio, se tiu estas malbona, okazos milito."

Thanks.

It's correct to use "se" in most of the cases where we would use "if" in English, regardless of the tense involved.

The main exception is when "if" could also be expressed as "whether." In that case use "ĉu" For example, "If she comes, I wonder if she'll be late"= "Se ŝi venos, mi scivolas ĉu ŝi malfruos."

Jes.

Se vi (jam) havas mansakon, venu ĉi tien.
