You could also render the sentence as
Mi volas forti.
since "estas Xa" = "Xi", where "X" is a root. Usually this construction implies a sense of some sort of action being involved, but I'm not sure how absolutely necessary that is.

Mi volas forta esti
are considered usable...
I'm assuming when we say "following esti/any other verb" we mean "the object or key attachment to any verb that would be following in normal word order"?

Genjix:Mi volas forta esti ... = Mi volas ke forta estas ...Mmmm. I was going to say that normally I don't think people would understand it like that, since we always use the "ke" in Esperanto, but I do recall having seen some strange subject+verb+subject+infinitive patterns around the place, not sure if they're correct or not.... So good thing to bring up, Genjix
Ĉu ne?

Genjix:Mi volas forta esti ... = Mi volas ke forta estas ...nothing wrong with that word order but your explanation sentence is wrong - it has to be mi volas ke mi forta estu
Ĉu ne?

Why not just "Mi volas esti forta"?
Normally we only use the -u ending when the two verbs have a different subject. "mi" is the subject of both verbs here, so we can use this simple constructino.
Certainly we wouldn't say "Mi volas ke mi venu" instead of "Mi volas veni".
But we would say "Mi volas ke vi venu", because the subject of "vol/" is "mi", whereas the subject of "ven/" is "vi", so we need a different form.
