Just reading through the transcription of the Krestomatio from Gutenberg.org and came across this:

"Trovinte pomon, mi ĝin manĝis." (roughly: "An apple which was found, I ate it."?)

Why is 'trovinte' an adverb, or is it supposed to be 'trovintan' and was incorrectly transcribed?

If I'm not making a mistake Trovinte pomon, mi ĝin manĝis. should go into English as Having found an apple, I ate it.

Trovinte is an adverb here because it refers to someone "who was in the act of finding something" (an apple in this case!).

You are correct. In addition, however, as your translation suggests, Trovinte refers not to being in the act of doing something, but having completed the act (finding an apple, in this case).

"Trovante pomon, mi ĝin manĝis" would be "(while) Finding an apple, I ate it", yeah? (of course, that's silly, since that suggests they were eating it while still searching for it lango.gif)
