BlackOtaku:I think it's unfair to immediately assume that they are trolling (unless they try to start the discussion in an obviously trollish manner).
Here he's proven himself a troll:
chicago:Well that was predictable, ...
And regarding the typical troll who claims to "reform" Esperanto. If he was not a troll he'd either be asking for example "Why do we need the -n after adjectives? Is it not redundant?" or he would know why we need it.
That is a good point.

I've pretty much contributed what little I have to say about this thread already, so personally I'm going to bow out of this thread for now. I hope the weather improves for those of you who are currently experiencing disagreeable weather! lango.gif

BlackOtaku, perhaps you find this thread rude because you don't realize that this poster has been indulged before in this forum. You're a really nice person and you are kindly giving someone the benefit of the doubt before making assumptions about the person's motives.

...however, there was a huge thread on his topic, bordering on a flame war. No one wants that again. He is not being straight out ignored; in fact, his topic has already been done to death in the past, and no one wants to repeat the bitter and lengthy discussion that has already been had.

The original thread, which ran for an incredible 39 pages of discussion, can be found here. Take a look and then decide for yourself whether you think this topic should be brought back to life. I think that you will have a good idea of why no one here wants to have another discussion of chicago1's document.

I don't know if you were the person who asked chicago1 to post the document. But if you were, then I assume it's because you were unaware of the earlier discussion on this topic. I don't blame you for it but if you were the one who asked for it, chicago1 should have pointed you to the earlier thread rather than trying to start up a new thread on the same tired old topic.

Back on topic -- wow, what a rain storm! A nice downpour, and it's supposed to rain all week. Fortunately tomorrow's farmer's market is in a sheltered location.

Wow, I apologize then! I knew that there had been a thread on this before, by razlem's reply, but I expected a one-or-two-post-then-ignored-and-dead thread, not a 39-page borderline flame war! shoko.gif I fully understand the desire to avoid the topic now.

I was not the one who asked him to post the document... considering I can't even read the articles at liberafolio.org without '*look up word* *look up word* *look up word* *piece sentence meaning together* *repeat* *give up, go do more exercises*' yet, I'm not really in any position to be discussing reforms with anyone, and I really don't want the language to start changing on me! rido.gif

Understood!

Whoever asked for it, it would have been better to direct that person to the original thread, where they could have read the discussion in all of its lengthy glory (plus download the original document, which was also posted at the beginning of The Thread That Ate Manhattan)

Why have you started discussing these proposals seriously? shoko.gif

Obvious troll is obvious.

Blegh. Gratiuitous use of the "troll" label. Let's not degenerate into a bunch of uncultured barbarians now.

It can hardly be called "gratuitous", when it's simply a statement of fact.

That thread of 39 pages wasn't all about proposals for changes to E-o. Much of the latter half of it was a long debate about the transitivity of a verb, which I don't want to get into again.

But it contained one very useful message , namely a reference to a page how to use symbols in tekstaro[/url] (about two-thirds of the way down). Make a note in case you need it - the URL is "http://tekstaro.com/tekstaro.html".

Well, calling someone a dickhead could also be considered by the same logic a statement of fact. It's just not polite to say that to someone in real life though.

From Wiktionary.
"dickhead (noun; vulgar, colloquial, pejorative, coarse):
A jerk; a mean or rude person."

So, let's all try being a little more mature - controlled conflicts and fun with words is good and all, but the namecalling is a little too far. You know, just because of that crazy Golden Rule or "two wrong's don't make a right" nonsense.

And yes, I know Wiktionary doesn't list "troll" as pejorative or coarse (even if it should), but it doesn't list it as a term of endearment or compliment either.
