I've completely lost track of where this discussion is going. Was there a mistake in the copy of Auld's translation with one too many "ne"s?

Miland:
Polaris:I wish an entire course were constructed around these kinds of exercises ..
You are in luck, because such courses have been published. I recommend William Auld's Traduku!, and there's also F.R. Banham's A translation course in Esperanto for advanced students. Both appear to be in print.
Thank you, Miland! I'll plan on getting that material. It would be even better if those interested could do this in some kind of a discussion group format--either on-line or even over Skype.

Ceiger the translation problems are the same whether she said she didn't go (but actually did) or said she went (and actually didn't).

In creating the passage to be translated I put it one way round - in the book it is the other way round.

There was also later some mistyping (mea kulpa) - now corrected I believe.

But the position of the 'ne's is not the interesting thing in the exercise. It is the tenses to be employed that is the issue.

Yes Polaris, I agree. If somebody has either of the two books and can post an exercise or two without revealing the 'answers' until everybody has had a go, that would be a useful exercise.
