I suggest a thread on discussing proverbs and what they actually mean, because I know for instance I and many other Esperantistos don't use the large array of proverbs available to us. For example;

"Celis paseron, trafis anseron"
"Aimed for a sparrow, caught a goose"

This is a Zamenhof proverb but I have no idea what it means, thus I propose a thread on discussing these proverbs and what they actually mean. I'm guessing it means something along the lines of I aimed high but fell short.

To me, it means you got more than you anticipated (in a good way).

Are there other EO proverbs/sayings?

Yep. You can get Zamenhofs Proverbaro HERE, along with a couple of hundred other (non-proverb-related) books.

I downloaded the whole set and put them on my iPad. It's a LOT of books. All free.

Cool thanks, I'll look into them.

So back on topic, the proverb seems pretty straightforward to me. I can see your position though, Evildela, about the sparrow being a kind of "bullseye" among the "coaxial circle" geese. Is there any context to the proverb? (i.e. was it seen in a story or poem?)

I know all the proverbs are here, and I can easily translate them, but I don't always actually understand what they are meant to mean or what situation they are meant to be used in, that's why I wanted to start a discussion tread on proverbs where people could submit a proverb that interests them then others could enlighten them.
