Esperanto equivalent for "appointment"

I'm having a hard time finding an appropriate equivalent for the English "appointment" as in a doctor's appointment or 'calling the office to change the appointment" etc. "Rendevuo" is the closest thing I've found but this seems too broad in it's meaning as it could also mean two people meeting somewhere. Do any of you high level folks know more about this?

Rendevuo is the right word for an appointment with a doctor or whatever.

However if it's a meeting, the translation is less clear.

Is it a meeting just to get together (kunveno)? Meeting someone in the street? (renkontiĝo)
A meeting to sit and discuss something for a period of time? (kunsido)?

That's the trickier word to translate rideto.gif

So if I'm changing an appointment would I say ...ŝanĝi la rendevuon... or ...ŝanĝi la rendevutempon...? Which would be better?

I'm always tempted to scrap the "rendevuo" and say something like 'la vizita tempo...Am I just not liking this word for no good reason?

Rendevuo as an "appointment" includes the time as well as the meeting, so ŝanĝi la rendevuon could well mean changing the time. Alternatively, vizita tempo looks all right to me, but you could say e.g. la tempo de la rendevuo. I wouldn't recommend rendevutempo myself.

So if rendevuo is OK for an appointment - what to say for a rendezvous (with amorous connotations)?

Perhaps to render 'I want to change the time of my appointment' - Mi volas ŝanĝi la horon de la konsultiĝo.

Are you sure about that? This is one of the key problems I'm having with this word.

I think you understand the problem. There ought to be a word that means : an agreed upon time of visit in an official or business sense. One word. Not an elaborate sentence. demando.gifShould I write a letter to the Lingva Komitato to petition a new word? What do you think?

Konsultohoro/Konsulthoro?
Has to be a 3/4 syllable word regardless, otherwise I would have offered "renkonthoro" but it's just as many syllables.

I assure you that when the military is talking about a rendezvous point, they are not talking about meeting their mistress in a cheap hotel.

I think understand your point Erinja. Also I know that in English there is more than one meaning for "appointment" as well.

Let's see... konsultohoro, vizita tempo, horo de rendevuo..

The Lingva Komitato adds new official words all the time. I'd say one is needed for this particular meaning. "apojnto" or something.

Does anyone know how it is said in the other root languages?
