pdenisowski:Rosetta Stone is popular because it gives people the idea that they are learning a foreign language when in fact it's little more than multimedia phrase study.Right. I tried Rosetta Stone once or twice, I had a free trial version. It was fun to play with for about ten minutes. But it didn't hold my attention, it got boring fast, and I didn't really feel like I was learning anything.

It wasn't Germans who were saying "kofro"; I've never talked with a German Esperantist about that topic, so I couldn't say what kind of word Germans might use.

sudanglo:Erinja, do you still remember what the mother tongue was of whoever was using kofro to mean valizo, or ĉerpejo to mean benzinstacio?Participating in the conversation were people who natively speak Slovak, Russian, and Lithuanian. I don't remember precisely which person used which words.
Of course Lithuanian is not a Slavic language but it does have some Slavic influences on its vocabulary.

sudanglo:... trousers in American...Well, although I can't be 100% sure that some American dialect somewhere doesn't commonly use it, I can say with certainty that no one *I* know would ever use the word "trousers", except for effect. Probably if they were trying to adopt a British affectation, actually.
We certainly know the word, and it does come up now and then, but it is definitely not a "go-to" word for us (at least, on the west coast).
We say "pants".
