I'm trying to wrap my brain around this construction and how to use it.

My best guess is:

sekve de tio = As a consequence of that
sekve de = hence

Mi falis sur la teron sekve de mia kapo ege doloris
I fell on the ground hence my head hurts a lot

Does that mean “sekve de” is interchangeable with “pro tio”?

Ŝi agas kiel idioto sekve de tio neniu volas koni ŝin
She acts like an idiot as a result no one wants to know her

Does that mean “sekve de tio” is interchangeable with “do”?

But I'm not sure if this is their correct usage.

I understand sekve de as kiel sekvo de (as a consequence of), which means your second usage is correct.

Sekve - Kiel natura aŭ logika sekvo.

Pro malsano mi ne povis ĉeesti ĉiujn lecionojn de la kurso, sekve mi ne ricevis bonan noton en la fina ekzameno.

Sekve, I understand. It's sekve de (tio), that I'm trying to figure out

Edit:
sekve de tio = as a consequence of that
sekve de = as a consequence of

Thats how I understand it now

Hyperboreus:I am not sure if you can put a subclause after "de". Perhaps sudanglo can help out there.

???Sekve de (tio) ke mi manĝis kiel proko, mi malsanas nun.
You can, but normally you add tio - it’s not obligatory however.
