Exactely: "sed" and "kaj" are conjunctions as opposed to subjunctions. For those among you who speak German, this language comes in handy here, as in German the word order in main phrases and subordinate phrases is different (at S-structure).
I’m not sure if that necessarily means something for languages other than German, as weil and denn both mean "because" and the first is a subjunction while the second is a conjunction.

However, it seems that I was wrong with my explanation.

Yeah I think that's where I was headed. Sometimes it's just easier to rewrite a sentence than it is to try to fix the original.
