Did anyone see The Colbert Report on 15 May

http://www.colbertnation.com/the-colbert-report-vi...

Stephen Colbert made fun of the UN and Esperanto again last night. That's generally a compliment. okulumo.gif
He tried to say 'my cold, dead hands' in Esperanto, but didn't do a very good job. Sounds like Google Translate. I'm not sure if I'm delighted or indignant.

Is this a case of 'any publicity is good publicity'?

"The UN is forcing everybody to learn Esperanto".

Lol. That was totally google translate. He even pronounced our "j" as in the j in jelly.

I don't know about this show The Colbert Report. So I don't know how he made fun of Esperanto in the past.

Though for the situation that Esperanto is in right now, I think that video could be good publicity. It atleast mentioned the language, and so the curious could search on what kind of language it is.

If people are making fun of Esperanto, I'd say that that is a good thing. It is far better than being totally ignored. It is certainly an advance on 'Oh, Esperanto didn't that die out years ago?'

Incidentally, the extent to which the possibility of using Google Translate has penetrated the public consciousness is surprising. I've come across several totally unexpected instances of that.

He could have clicked on that speaker icon on the lower right... ridulo.gif

I almost understood nothing. He sounded like a dying horse as he pronounced it. ridego.gif

On a lighter note, his mocking of Esperanto has some kind of a good effect, giving a hint of the existence of Esperanto to its considerably large number of audiences (or, those who are as well 'un-fanned' of UN). One of them maybe started showing interest, we don't know. ridulo.gif

"Sola reviews the history of Esperanto,an international constructed language and asks language enthusiasts of New York City where this century old language fits in our modern world. This program won the Best Documentary award in Brooklyn College 2013 Annual MFA awards. "

It should be noted that the show pokes fun at those short-sighted, hyper-conservative opinion shows, and as such, anything that it actively mocks is, by the inverse logic of the show, actually kind of advocated.
