As I recall, -n is often used to replace a preposition, and in this case is synonymous with je, which one uses to mean on, that is, to date an action:

Hodiaŭ estas la 12a de marto.
Mi naskiĝis je la 12a de marto. = Mi naskiĝis la 12an de marto.

Using -n with dates only works when the verb is intransitive, since one can have only one thing in the accusative per sentence:

Mi skribis ĉi tion je la 12 de marto.
(not Mi skribis ĉi tion la 12an de marto)

I'm not sure about this. In PMEG you can find sentences with two -n endings:

"Merkredon mi kantos, kaj, se vi havas tempon, mi sendos al vi bileton."
"Ĉu vi permesos al mi pendigi tiun ĉi kanajlon sub la ĉielo la kapon malsupren?"

Neither is as overt as something like "Mi faros tion merkredon," but that doesn't seem wrong to me, just maybe a bit inelegant. (On a linguistic note, this is why I prefer to say just "-n ending" or something like it -- marking accusative case is only one of the uses of -n; in its other roles it is marking a more general oblique case. Though I suppose you could argue that "accusative" is more general in Esperanto. However you want to slice it.)

sudanglo:As regards the case for the date after hodiaŭ, I think you might use either 'hodiaŭ, la 13-a de aprilo' or 'hodiaŭ, la 13-an de aprilo, the latter feeling somehow more emphatic.

It depends on how you define "accusative". The Detailed Grammar of lernu! gives some exemples where you have several endings -N close together, like "Mi metis ĝin sur vian tablon". The only real restriction is that the same verb shall not have two N-objects. Thus "doni gxin al li", not "*doni lin gxin".

That would be very unusual for normal speech, but I think it would be something like mi naskiĝis en du mil dek kvar en decembro la tridek unuan.
