One could follow the etymology of "window" to the old Norse "vindauga", which means nothing but "windeye".
So let's use "Ventokulo"! From the famous company "Malgrandegmola"!

Not that it would matter to me; I use a Pomo myself, and am still in mourning for Mr. Stefano Taskoj.
I buried my old SE years ago, which I had kept around out of sentimentality for almost two decades. Does that make it a Terpomo now?

Por terpomo mi proponas "ĉukio" el la ajmara vorto "ch'uqi". Por "manĝbastonetoj" (uf!) mi proponas "haŝioj" el la japana ĉar estas kurta kaj klara (kkk).
Eble "okulkuracisto" estas pli esperanta ol la zamenhofa "oftomologo" sed entekste oni povas uzi aŭ unu aŭ la alian sen problemoj.
Sed se esperantistoj preferas peti kelneron por alporto de "manĝbastonetoj" kaj la kelneroj komprenas, tiam tia "estu!" (soi!) Se oni volas peti "frititajn terpomfingrojn" aŭ "frititajn terpombastonetojn" en rapidvorejo kaj la superŝarĝata dungito havas la tempon por elaŭskulti la tutan frazon, mojose!
Ĉe ni (mi esperante parolas kun mia edzo) temas pri "haŝioj" kaj "fritoj" - la kelneroj ĉi tie "nur" komprenas la usonan kaj la hispanan, do "chopsticks"/ "fries" aŭ "palillos" kaj "fritas" (aŭ "papitas"). Por tiuj en landoj kun luksa tempo, la plilongaj formoj rekomendiĝas. Amenon.

jean-luc:I find funny that the example used for saying there is no need of new roots is a word which should have beed a new root: terpomo ne estas pomo.Probably Zamenhof borrowed idea of 'terpomo' from Austria-German 'Erdapfel'.

I wonder how wide-spread this "earth-apple" phenomenon is throughout Europe... or throughout the parts of the world that also have apples...

Most fruits are sweet, most vegatables are not. So, to present it most exotic they gave it fruit name instead of vegatable type one. Also, if polished, skin of potatoes can look same like that one of some apple types. Especially that small dark pimples can be found both on skin of potatoes and i.e. Golden Delicious and Boskoop apples.
