No. Looks like they have all their translations done by professionals, but I wouldn't be surprised if they start opening it up to volunteers if they start losing people to facebook who like having an interface in their language. Esperantists, for instance.

XIHA Life, a multilingual social network, just launched in Esperanto. This site is different from others in that the users can choose multiple languages at once. XIHA is also truly global, with members from over 200 countries and no country holding over 5% of the total traffic. It's specifically designed for speakers of multiple languages and I'm very happy to see Esperanto now being part of the selection.

While XIHA has an translation tool that any member can be given access to, there is no FB-style public democracy system. Instead, skilled translators who are passionate about what they do are chosen to do the job. I would be grateful for feedback on the site, especially how the Esperanto localization works out. The work is not completed, but most of the user interface is already done. You'll find the Esperanto version at http://eo.xihalife.com/ (auto-detection of language may happen, in which case just click on the globe in top-right to choose Esperanto)

After reading your post i was about to try make myself an account for XIHA but stopped when i saw that they put my home country under Taiwan(China) and not just Taiwan or Taiwan(ROC) as it should be. This is a complete misconception as it leads people to think that China (PRC) owns Taiwan(ROC), which is completely untrue. And while on the subject although i love lernu, because it is the most awesome learning website i'v ever seen, It has in the lists of words (for memorization) Taiwan under non-sovereign territories (this is false because Taiwan a totally sovereign country with its own Diplomatic allies!) i have no problem with the esperanto translation though when you enter the list it says non-UN membership (in eo of course), because this is true Taiwan(ROC) is nolonger a member of the UN, it used to be a member under the name ROC and even had veto power but left when the UN let the PRC in. Now it can't get back in because the PRC has veto power. Just because a country isn't a part of the globe oligarchy called the UN, it doesn't mean it isn't sovereign! sorry i gues that was kind of off topic. And i tried so long to keep politics out of what i said in lernu, but the truth needs to be said especially in a world of mass propaganda!

To xihalife,

I see in your profile you are a co-founder of xihalife. From what i can see it looks like a very good social-networking website. Perhaps you can make a change to Taiwan's name? I think most Taiwanese would prefer just the name Taiwan, or a compromise Taiwan (ROC), like on the tags,...
MADE IN TAIWAN(ROC)
But adding (China) is off putting. China is a hostil country to Taiwan with more then 1000 missiles pointed at us, and whenever we have our FREE Presidential elections, China trys to intimidate voters by way of threats (in the 1996 election they shot missiles over Taiwan) Please don't give into pressure from China! If you are able to change the name, I and I'm sure many more Taiwanese would be happy to join your social networking website.

What you say makes sense, so I changed it to Taiwan. We are completely non-political organization so we have no opinion on the matter, one way or the other. We welcome people from all over the world, and our members are generally interested in other cultures, languages and of course, people.

Now, going back to the topic (well, almost to the topic at least), did you have a chance to check out the Esperanto version of xihalife? I'd be very happy to receive some honest feedback on that, too! (I don't speak Esperanto, so the translations are not made by me... the Esperanto version is made by novatago who is also a member of lernu!)

Dear xihalife

I am sincerely happy about the change! Thank you for fixing Taiwan's name. I've made myself an account and have been trying out the different things on the website. I haven't used the Esperanto setting that much yet since I'm not yet a fluent speaker and would like to explore it in English first. But as soon as i figure it out, I will be switching to the eo version exclusively. By-the-way, I really like the globleized feel of the network!

I think it's great seeing all these services opening themselves up to Esperanto. It definitely bodes well for the global network of people that Esperanto has already created.

If you have a Facebook account, know some Esperanto, and haven't voted on any terms yet, please add the "translations" application and do so. Every term has to reach a certain fairly high threshold (apparently around twenty-five votes), and some terms are still in need of an expert opinion.

I see that esperanto is now at 69% of step one (out of three steps) in the translation phase. When we reach step 2 do we get to see some of what was translated in our facebook interface? It looks like its going to be a long process but i can't wait till it's finished.
