Metsis:Re: bodybuilding, I got this one figured out:
I would say ekzercado is fitness and korpokulturo is bodybuilding (and neither couldn't interest me less), but I suspect that the difference is not known everywhere, so in any case you have to stipulate or explain the terms first in your text/speech.

sudanglo:Do you like to work out?If I understand that definition correctly, that seems to be the verb specifically for gymnastics training and wouldn't really work for weightlifting and the like.

nornen:Trejni.Are you sure?
The feeling I get just from the definition is that "trejni" is about coaching or training other people.

nornen:If you can train other people, you can train yourself (trejni sin, trejniĝi).Perhaps you're right.
Jen.
How would you translate this:
PIV:trejni sin en la stadionoAlso compare other languages:
EN: I'm going to work out.
ES: Voy a entrenar.
DE: Ich gehe trainieren.
I think what's giving me a hang-up is that it apparently also means "to coach." When I think of coaching, I think of that specific discipline where the guy in the track suit with the stopwatch or whatever is coaching you in your support. While in English you could also call that person a "trainer," and say that he is training his athletes, all of that has a different flavor than a word that means to go into the gym and exercise.

Mi trejnas min. = I work out. (I make myself exercise)
Mi trejniĝas. = Mi trejnas min.

I mentioned in another thread that I'm trying to translate The Most Dangerous Game for practice in actually using Eo. Here's a passage I'm working on:
Rainsford sprang up and moved quickly to the rail, mystified. He strained his eyes in the direction from which the reports had come, but it was like trying to see through a blanket. He leaped upon the rail and balanced himself there, to get greater elevation. Here's the best I've got on that (note that I am not Esperantizing the names):
Rainsford eksaltis kaj movis rapide al la relo, konfuziĝis. Per granda fortostreĉo, li rigardis en la direkto de la sono, sed estis kiel peni vidi tra litkovrilo. Li saltis sur la relon kaj tie stabiligis sin, por fariĝi pli alta.If anyone is interested in telling me all the ways I've gone wrong here, I'd consider it a kindness. I was definitely kind of taking a shot in the dark on some of this.
