I ask this because I unconsciously said this when practising esperanto - this is instead of saying 'mi havas X jarojn'.
And I think 'mi estas dok-ek jara' sounds kinda cooler than 'mi havas dok-ek jarojn'

Also, one could say...
1) Mi aĝas XX jarojn.
2) Mi XXjaraĝas.
3) Mi XXjaras. [This one looks vague to me.]
Maybe my answer would suffice.

ceigered:Just a quick idea, I don't know if this is used but could one say 'Mi estas 18 jara' to say 'I am 18 years old'? Or 'Mi estas 18 jare' (I am 18, in years / I am 18 on the topic of years)The first lesson of Ana Pana says:

Mi estas 18-jara.
The PDF version, which appears to be from 2007, uses:
Mia aĝo estas 18.
On the other hand, the Bildoj kaj Demandoj course uses the sentence:
Ana aĝas dek ok jarojn.
So I guess you have your pick!
(As long as that pick doesn't include 'dok-ek' in it...)

slytobias, maybe that's where I subconciously learnt it from? Maybe Ana Pana is a form of subliminal mind control that sets in later in life?

But age is such a flexible thing to express in Esperanto, although the lack of a set "YOU MUST SAY THIS ....!" phrase did scare me at first as a komencanto

mnlg and patrick, jaraĝ/i/o/a, that's a nice one, jaraĝa. I wonder if it's alright to say 'mi estas dek ok aĝata jare' (I am 18 aged annually)?

That could then work for people who wish to express their ages in months too

"Mi estas 121 aĝata................. monate"

ceigered:"Mi estas 121 aĝata................. monate"Perhaps easier, "mi aĝas 121 monatojn".
