re. "backstage", CEED has "postkulisa", which is also in Reta Vortaro here.

yes, that's a good word. So the noun would be 'postkulisejo'.

I kind of like the word 'postkulisejo', but I'm not sure how widely used this is... I've usually seen 'postkulisa' used in the sense that ReVo points out, ie. 'secretive, unseen by the public'. You know, like politicians striking deals 'behind the scenes'.

But, maybe it's ok to use 'postkulisa' as the adjective for 'backstage' too. Seems ok. But if you do a Google search for 'postkulisejo' in the sense of 'backstage' it comes up with only 4 results! Another possibility is 'malantauxscenejo', but that also brings up very few results in Google. There must be another way of saying 'backstage', or is there just nobody writing about it in Esperanto?!

I also like the "tall & deep-letter-mix" look of that word. Seems to be that since Shavian was mentioned here in this en.lernu.net forum I'm something sensitive to the look of words. That's why I dislike "mal-" prefix mostly. Some exception: malaĉa & malfiulo

Or maybe 'postsceneja' / 'postscenejo'? Equally, very little on Google...

Ah, no 'postscenejo' wouldn't really work, I suppose... 'post/scen/ej/ej/o'!!? Not good.

For the actual place I would just say "post la kulisoj" myself, I don't think it's necessary to come up with a single word to match the English term.

Hhm, what about a music club called "Backstage" like this one? (It's the projecting roof over the entry area to a party area where happen music concerts k.t.p.). I'd like use one word "postkulisejo" to point to that special "Backstage" music club in a e-o information brochure. "Beksteiĝ (postkulisejo)" (Ouch, I know) could be fine too if some e-o uloj will have to ask for the way to the Backstage club.

I've no idea if there's an established word, but in my view "postkuliso" should be ok, even if it never appears in Google. I don't think it's necessary to use the "ej" suffix because the root kulis' already has the sense of a place. Additionally "ej" is almost always used with the sense of a location purposed for a certain thing (the thing described by the root) rather than location alone, so personally I wouldn't bother with it.
