If it's just a regular yearly subscription, for any hear, that's a jara kotizo. But a ĉi-jara kotizo is a subscription for this year (might cost more this year than last!)

Therefore you pay a kotizo (subscription fee) for a magazine subscription, you pay a kotizo (membership dues) to your national Esperanto association, and you pay a kotizo (registration fee) to sign up for an Esperanto convention.
