Since 'denoti' collides with 'de-noti', I think the solution for the verb is 'denotacii.
Is this a collision we need to worry about? What would de-noti mean anyway?

It's not a killer argument. Esperanto can tolerate such collisions, though there is a tendency to avoid them.

But you started from the position of looking for a technical term, and thinking that you might copy from a Romance language.

Given the rather general notion of French dénoter, but the specific meaning given to dénotation and also the definitions in NPIV, under 'denotacio', then 'denotacii' seemed to be a nice solution.

Noti = 1) make a small summary about something for future reference; 2) (figure): call to attention(?) (priatenti)and imprint in ones memory.

De = related to, belonging to, somewhere between "el", "-a" and "pri".

Thus "denoti" =~ make a note of something, note something about something.

"Mi denotas la eraron en mia skriblibreto"

How's that for a stab in the dark? I don't think it's particularly more useful than "noti ion pri io" etc, but I guess it's useful.

I don't have any strong feelings about it either way. But if denotaci- is an existing root, then I guess that tips the scales in its favor, although I generally don't like this kind of derivation. If it's worth having a noun like denotacio in the language in the first place, it's worth doing it right and forming the relevant nouns, such as denotado from the verb root.

The most commonly encountered similar verb that I can think of is konversacii, from konversacio. I've seen manifestacii and oracii too. I regard all of these as rather unfortunate. Zamenhof used konversacii, but interparolo gets the job done just as well.

As for collision with de-noti, I don't see the meaning as sufficiently distinct from just plain noti to make anyone likely to use it. If anything prinoti seems a more likely compound.

But, as I say, if denotacii is already in the dictionary, I guess it makes sense to use it instead of introducing a new root. And we can put up with monsters such as denotaciata and so forth.

De-noti sounds like removing the annotations or underlinings out of a used book. rido.gif
