I recently wrote my first poem in Esperanto. I signed it to my wife, but wanted to refer to her as my soulmate. I used "animopariĝino".
Is that correct?

No, because you can normally add the suffix -in only to something that can have a natural gender.

An animopariĝo is an action, so you can't add -in to it. You could express "soulmate" maybe as anima kunulo (add -in if you think it's really necessary, but actually this word doesn't necessarily express only male beings).

Oh, I see. That makes much more sense. I like anima kunulo. Thanks.

I might say it as animkunulino. kunulo = companion (neutral gender), kunulino = female companion, tack on anim/ to that. Female soul companion.

Hey, I like that better. It seems more "right" for it to be a single word. I find it difficult to express myself with words. I am a visually oriented thinker. That could be why I am a photographer/cameraman and TV Producer. I am trying to find a way to express myself and Esperanto is the tool I am using.

My wife died on Feb. 20th. Suddenly and without warning from a malignant brain tumor that no one knew was even there. My Son and I are reeling, broken and lost at the moment and I have been using Esperanto as a distraction, and now as a way of expression. Thank you for your help with this. It is a word that I believe I will use quite often and wanted to clarify its use.

I'm sorry to hear of your loss.

I was thinking that parano might capture the idea of "mate" better than kunulo, which is more along the lines of "companion". So, animparano is possible. But...kunulo is well known and recognizable, and "soul companion" is probably close enough.
