It's Esperanto, not Esparanto.

Dankon, or I assume "Dankon al vi" for a longer, flashier version ("Mi donas dankon al vi"?), but that said I've only ever seen "Dankon" and I've never had the opportunity to see what sort of formal ways of saying "thank you" exist in the Esperanto world.

The alternatives to 'dankon' are:

Mi dankas, Mi tre dankas, Mi dankas vin, Mi tre dankas vin, multan dankon, multajn dankojn.

There is also a rather curious use of the apostrophe in the expression Dank'al which has a meaning 'owing to', 'Thanks to'.

A very common reply to 'dankon' is 'Ne dankinde' - something like 'not at all', literally 'not worthy of thanks'.

Ceiger, are there no Esperanto congresses 'down under' which you could go to to see how the language is used in conversation

Maybe in Melbourne? (although I've never been there before and am not in a financial position to go visit, although a cousin has been trying to get me to visit) All I know is that the Adelaide EO group doesn't seem active at all, and haven't replied to an email asking if they are active.

Anyway, scrap what I about dankon al vi, I was actually thinking more on the lines of everything in your first sentence. I'm forgetting EO at an alarming rate okulumo.gif
