I understand the principe upon which compound words are made in E-o but still have trouble with the subtleties of meaning.

The word "vidpunkto" is defined in the vortaro as "viewpoint" and I see how that works. ("vido" is modifying "punkto") However if I wanted to use the English expression "point of view" would I say "vidpunkto" or "punkto de vido" or would either be acceptable?

Also, what sense would "punkt-vido" have, if any?

Dankon por via helpo.

Maybe "action of seeing a point", wherever you might use that.

If you could supply a sentence in English in which 'vidpunkto' was not suitable for translating 'point of view', I'm sure the Forum members would be happy to help in the translation.

'Punkto de vido' sounds a little odd. I can't say why.

In English we use either "viewpoint" or "point of view," but in Esperanto I've never seen nor heard "punkto de vido." I suppose there's nothing wrong with phrasing it that way, but it's probably better to use the more common and more easily understood word.
