sudanglo:Personally I don't see why all national forums shouldn't permit posting in Esperanto by those who can read the national language concerned, but have difficulty writing it.
It is exactly my case. Mi kapablas legi la anglan, sed ne skribi ĝin.

Sudanglo, vi ĉiam tiel saĝa. ridulo.gif

You could of course start such a translation thread in the Esperanto forum. Then people could comment on the translation in Esperanto.

sudanglo:Alesh, if you posted used Google Translate to put your post in English then it did a good job. Did you draft in French or Esperanto?
In French.

Now, the new text. Difficult. I'm not sure I rightly understood (even with the help of Google Translate).

Krom grandaj monfluoj en aperantaj merkatoj, plibonigitaj ekonomiaj datumoj, fortaj firmaraj profitoj kaj penoj de la registaro kaj de la centra banko por plivigligi ekonomian kreskon inspiris al investantoj pli pozitive taksi tiajn investaĵojn dum la dua jarduono. Krome, la konsento pri dua plano de la Eŭropa Unio por reflosigi Grekujon apogis merkatojn.

sudanglo:Personally I don't see why all national forums shouldn't permit posting in Esperanto by those who can read the national language concerned but have difficulty writing it.
Because then the posts won't be readable by people whose Esperanto isn't good enough to read it, which defeats the purpose of a national language forum.

The language in this translation exercise is a good example of the sort of language that is used in financial reporting, where the actual content is minimal but is dressed up to appear to be more consequential than it actually is.

Should Esperanto ever be used one day in for commentaries on financial markets it may be required.

Since the passage actually says very little, the problem here is not so much translating the meaning, but of achieving a similar ponderous style to disguise the fact that one is not saying much.

Mini-glosaro:

corporate earnings - company profits;
emerging markets - stock markets of countries like China, India, Brazil which are developing rapidly;
fund flows - movement of money, buying exceeds selling;
assset class - a type of investment like gold, property, company shares etc.;
bailout package - financial aid (loan accompanied by certain conditions) to prevent failure of institutions.

Let them use Google Translate, or skip over those posts!

By the way someone told me, that you can learn to read Esperanto in month. Not true, Tom?

The bigger disadvantage comes NOT from lack of comprehension of certain posts, but from the inhibition of participation by those who can not write well in the relevant language.

Even in the case of Esperanto it is much much harder to write well in the language than to read it. So the national language forums make sense in the promotion of lively discussion, and of course for answering beginners language-specific queries.

Perhaps the sensible practical solution, would be for the original poster simply to append to his post Replies in Forum Language only please or Replies also welcome in Esperanto. This could be abbreviated to EN or EN/EO, in the case of the English forum. That keeps everybody happy.

Sudanglo, this translation thread requires that the participants be able to write very well in Esperanto, so why not put it in the Esperanto-language forum? Then anyone who can read and understand English well enough (even if they can't write well) would be able to join in.

sudanglo:By the way someone told me, that you can learn to read Esperanto in month. Not true, Tom?
True enough I guess, at least for some people. But I don't think that's the point. It shouldn't be incumbent on readers of an English forum to be proficient in Esperanto just because this site is about Esperanto.

As for sending them off to Google Translate, you could say the same thing to non English speakers. The translations aren't great but they would probably be understood.

Anyway back to the topic! Here's a translation:

Pli bonaj ekonomiaj datumoj, korporacia bonlukro, stimuloj fare de registaroj kaj centraj bankoj, kune kun kapitalofluo en ekaperantajn merkatojn estigis pli pozitivan takson de tiu havoklaso inter investistoj dum la dua jarduono. Ankaŭ aprobo de dua Eŭropunia savpakaĵo por Grekujo helpis subteni merkatojn.
