Hey! I'm not here, so thought I'd say "Hello". I love the idea of Esperanto, although I've never seriously tried to learn it before.

I've got a basic knowledge of French and German, and a very basic knowledge of Japanese. I've always enjoyed studying different languages, and have been looking for a good place to study Esperanto. Lernu! seems to be perfect!

So...

I am also new here, just begun to learn esperanto. I love it! I can sit with courses in so much as three hourses at day... Normally just a hour, but sometimes can i flip directly out.
  I hope I will get much fun with esperanto... I am happy with the "results" to now.

I didn't realise that while ĉino is the word for the Chinese language, ĥino is the word for a Chinese person.

La ĉina is the Chinese language (short for la ĉina lingvo). Both ĉino and ĥino mean a Chinese person. Ĥino I think is a casualty of the Great Campaign Against the Letter Ĥ, along with ĥemio, arĥeologio, meĥaniko, teĥnika, and certain others.

"La ĉina" signifas la ĉinan lingvon (estas mallongigo). Kaj ĉino kaj ĥino signifas ĉinan homon. Mi pensas, ke la vorto "ĥino" estas viktimo de La Granda Kampanjo Kontraŭ Litero Ĥ, kiel ĥemio, arĥeologio, meĥaniko, teĥniko, kaj kelkaj aliaj.

Poor hx - always being replaced (but usually by k).

Why is this - because of pronunciation difficulties for some?

 It may sound funny, but some (including me) have the opposite problem. In Bulgarian we don't have a "h" sound. But we do have a "ĥ" sound. And therefore I always say "ĥ" instead of "h" even though I try not to do so. In my opinion they should be used as allophones not only because most languages have only one of them, but also because they are accoustically highly similar.

Ĝi rajtas soni ridindan, sed iu (kaj mi) havas la mala ficasa. En Bulgara ni ne havas "h" sonon. Sed ni havas "ĥ" sonon. Do mi ĉiam diras "ĥ" anstataŭ "h" tamen mi penas nefari tiel. Mi opinas ili uzu tiel, kiel sonoj tiu, kiu havas sama senco malnur ĉar la plej lingvoj havas nur unu de sonojn sed ankaŭ ĉar ili estas sone tre simila.

* How about instead of "Mi opinias ke ili uziĝu tiel, kiel sonoj tiuj, kiuj havas saman sencon", we say "Mi opinias, ke ili uziĝu kvazaŭ samsonaj".
