What's wrong with "Mi (estas) studinta Esperanton dum semejno" Unless -inta necessitates that the action has ceased. Seems to me that it merely conveys that I studied Esperanto during one week, and that particular instance was completed, but not that the action of studying Esperanto does not reoccur.

Mi studas Esperanton ekde unu semajno.
(I study Esperanto since one week)

Mi estas studanta Esperanton ekde (antaŭ) unu semajno.
(I am studing Esperanto since one week)

Mi estis studanta Esperanton dum unu semajno.
(I was studing Esperanto during one week)

Anyway, you must always try to use easy sentences. For example: you do not say "Mi estis ludanta" (I was playing) if you can say "Mi ludis" (I played).

Why shouldn't one use this phrase? If i'm narrating a story and want to refer to something that i've been doing for a while, i'd defininetely use "estis -inta".

Why are you using these esti ...anta forms in here? Are you making word-for-word translation from English? If so, it has no sense at all. Read Lingvaj Respondoj de Zamenhof.

Nothing wrong with that. It just has no sense at all. If you like to talk gibberish, then this is the perfect way to start.

Wait... if I put "Mi studinta Esperanton dum semajno." into the Google translator I get "I studied Esperanto for one week". It might not be precisely what he is looking for, but it's not gibberish.

I guess that it is gibberish, as the sentence no verb. :/

That's just because in Google Translate "studinta" corresponds to "studied". But the translation is wrong because nobody would say "Mi studinta" in Esperanto, it would always be "Mi estas studinta".

In any case "Mi studis" will usually be preferable.

The output is the same when I give it "Mi estas studinta Esperanton dum semajno." What the sentence lacks the been part... maybe "Mi komence studis esperanton dum unu semajno".
