Whilst flipping through some French expressions I came across this:
'Vouloir le beurre et l'argent du beurre'
(literally: 'to want the butter and the money for it')
This translates into Italian as: 'Volere la botte piena e la moglie ubriaca' (literally 'to want a full barrel and a drunken wife')
And the English version i found was: 'to have your cake and eat it too'
As far as this specific saying goes, I feel, amongst the three, the Italian version is the most colourful and explicative.
I was just wondering weather in America, Australia, or any other English speaking countries other versions of this saying exist.
And if you know the Esperanto for it too, well, that would also be appreciated.

It's interesting to see how so many proverbs seem to found across the world.

In Esperanto you could just take any two incompatible actions.

For example, vi ne povas gardi kaj fordoni.

Or if we are going to do it with cakes, Kuko manĝita ne estas kuko manĝota.

Volas esti Esperantisto, dum paroladas krokodile.
