Can someone explain the difference between pro and cxar? Thanks.

Pro = because of (preposition).

Ĉar = because (subordinating conjunction).

Awesome. So just to confirm . . .

1. Ni venkis la konkurso pro Johano, kiu laboris intense sur la projekto.
2. Mi sxatas sxin cxar sxi estas amuza.

Pro can only be used with single noun phrases for indicating causes and goals or motives:
Mi eliris la ĉambron pro malvarmo. I left the room due to the cold.
Ŝi ploris pro via agoj. She cried because of your actions.
Mi ridas pro via amuzo. I laughed for your amusement
Mi helpis lin pro komplimento. I helped him for a compliment.

Ĉar is used with clauses for indicating causes and goals or motives:
Mi volas manĝi bananon, ĉar mi ŝatas bananojn. I want to eat a banana, because I like bananas.
Ĉar vi estas tia bela, mi pensas ke mi ekamos vin. Because you are so beautiful, I think I might fall in love with you.

Also:
Vi lavis mian aŭton perfekte. Dankon pro tio.
