THE LETTER N REPLACES AN OMITTED PREPOSITION. This is true even in the case of Cp. Mi manĝas pomon, I eat an apple = Mi manĝas je pomo, I am eating OF (nibbling AT) an apple; I am eating (as regards) an apple. linkIs this true? If this is true, then does this mean the accusative could be completely omitted by simply adding a preposition, such as je?

Alkanadi:does this mean the accusative could be completely omitted by simply adding a preposition, such as je?Not without making a lot of sentences very ambiguous, since je can mean other things.

Alkanadi:You use "je" when other means of expressing your thought have run out and are not suitable. So this is not a replacement for accusative, sorry. By the way, why people do not like accusative in Esperanto, it is so simple and regular after all. It is just one single tiny letter "n" at the end of a word. Is that really so difficult to grasp?THE LETTER N REPLACES AN OMITTED PREPOSITION. This is true even in the case of Cp. bryku:Well bryku, if one can learn to use 'je' for the accusative, I suppose one could learn '-n'.

I will stand beside you in asking, "Is that really so difficult to grasp?"

vejktoro:I will stand beside you in asking, "Is that really so difficult to grasp?"Most people don't like it. Personally, I think it is a useful tool.

Is that really so difficult to grasp?Well, but it would be nice to have some 'punching'(means unmistakable in spoken conversation) accusative particle available which could be placed before object to change 'default'(most common) word order.

spreecamper:The "spoken conversation" presents no difficulty at all. If you can't figure out what your collocutor is saying, you can always ask. But how can "mi legas libron" be mistaken? If one speaks high level esperanto, he can't misunderstand accusative and it is the accusative itself that grants freedom to the language user, and not its crippled replacements causing only unnecessary disturbances in the language. Kabe's claim still holds: "Esperanton plej necese devas lerni la Esperantistoj mem!"bryku:You use "je" when other means of expressing your thought have run out and are not suitable. bryku:The "spoken conversation" presents no difficulty at all. If you can't figure out what your collocutor is saying, you can always ask.Often, yes, but not always.
bryku:But how can "mi legas libron" be mistaken? Then I also would not need to use accusative marker. (Principle of facultative precision?)
bryku:If one speaks high level esperanto, he can't misunderstand accusative and it is the accusative itself that grants freedom(x) to the language user, and not its crippled replacements causing only unnecessary disturbances in the language. That freedom of word order only produces confusion. Best practice is already set to some extend of fixed word order.
bryku:Kabe's claim still holds: "Esperanton plej necese devas lerni la Esperantistoj mem!"Pfff, nice speech during slamming Esperanto movement's door. Kabe's good-bye 'show' also could be understood like 'capitulation'.
