How to translate 'for'.

Hello,
I'm having a little trouble here and wanted enquire as to how one would translate the following sentence :

"I slept for eight hours last night."

I'm having the most difficulty with the word 'for'. This is what I got so far...

"Mi dormis por ok horoj lasta nokto"

Am I anywhere near close?
I would appreciate any assistance.

Choose from/Elektu el:
Mi dormis ok horojn dum lasta nokto.
Mi dormis je ok horoj dum lasta nokto.
Mi dormis dum ok horoj lasta-nokte.

William, you will find in your language study that things go better if you don't translate word for word. Just because the English sentence uses "for" doesn't mean that the Esperanto version of that sentence will include the Esperanto translation of "for".

For example, if you wanted to say "I fell in love with her", you wouldn't say 'Mi falis en amon kun ŝi". You would say "Mi enamiĝis je ŝi" (or "al ŝi" or a couple of other prepositions that would be ok here, but "enamiĝi" is the verb)

U can simply say "enamigxi sxin" though, erinja , too ridulo.gif.OOOK i agree d`avance that it `s no way to Esperanto. But,say, what can really interfere with uzing it but some pritty unsufficiently considered rules of it?

You cannot say "enamiĝi ŝin", verbs ending with -iĝi are intransitive.

The little probleme is that esperanto has no particlar preposition to express feelings towards anybody ridulo.gif . i`d be very glad to get such ridulo.gif

Ah, but can the -n ending not be used to mark the omission of a preposition as well?

But there are no examples with -iĝi!
They can think -iĝi iun/ion to be misspelling of -igi iun/ion!

Ohhh , bloody rules ridulo.gif , i see things get worse with this :

Ĉu vi pensas, ke Dio permesos, ke unu sola homo [...] renversu ĉion la supron malsupren.Rt.130

Li falis vizaĝon al la tapiŝo.

Oni povus ankaŭ diri, ke havante, tenante, metinte aŭ simile estas subkomprenata. Tiam temas pri objekto:

Li sidis (havante) la brakojn kunmetitaj.

Li haltis dum momento, (tenante) la kapon klinita iom flanken.

Se la posta pozicia esprimo estas A-vorto (klinita, kunmetitaj), ĝi ne havu N-finaĵon, ĉar ĝi estas perverba priskribo de la objekto, kvankam la verbo (en participa formo) estas subkomprenata.
