guyjohnston:I think a problem with this kind of translation into Esperanto is that because you can create words so freely, it's easy to come up with loads of different translations that are all valid, so it's hard to reach a consensus.
Agreed, for this reason I tend to vote up the most popular sensible translation.

i'v just come across a problem with the translation for "Inbox".

the most popular translation for it on facebook, so far, is "Mesaĝejo". but doesn't this basically mean "message place"? That would work if it was supposed to be mailbox. But what translation would we use for outbox then? I think "Enmesaĝejo", would be better for inbox that way "Outbox" or "messeges sent" could be "Elmesaĝejo" what do you guys think?

You might try going less literal. I don't know how long a word you want it to be.

But at lernu, we use "ricevitaj mesagxoj" (inbox), "senditaj mesagxoj" (sent mail). You could use "sendotaj mesagxoj" for outbox but I'm not sure if facebook has such a thing.

It never happened to me to translate such terms, but what about ricevujo and sendujo? I think they would be clear enough if the context is mail ("inbox" would not be clear at all to me if I didn't know that its context is clearly mail).

The way it works on Facebook is, you have a top-level menu item called "Inbox", and then under that, "Message Inbox" (which is your actual inbox), "Sent Messages", "Notifications", "Updates", and "Compose Message". I think "Mesaĝejo" is fine for the top-level "Inbox", and "ricevitaj mesaĝoj" for "message inbox".

Normally if you've already submitted your own translation for a term, you can't later vote on any other translations of that term, which you might want to do if yours has got voted down, so you can vote up the most popular translation to help get it finalised quicker. But I've found out that if you click "edit" next to your translation, then submit it again (or another one that's already been submitted), an error message appears and you can click "review translations". Then you can vote on the other translations. I think this only works if you're using the "new Facebook" interface. It's also useful if your translation is winning, so you can vote down other ones to get yours finalised quicker.
