What would fully Esperanto patronym or matronym look like? What about names based on places?

Would something like "Paŭlo, Johanido el Esperantujo" work for a character named Paul from Esperantujo, whose father was John? Would "filo de Johano" be preferable to "Johanido?"

I think either Paŭlido or Paŭlfilo sound nice.

I believe that the Esperanto suffix -ido is derived from the Greek patronymic suffix -ιδης (-ides, as in Atreides).

Maybe Paul Johnson could be rendered as 'Johanida Paŭlo'? okulumo.gif

Esperanto is not really equipped to deal with patronyms. I would say "filo de Johano"

If you really insisted on doing something other than that though, I'd go with the -id- suffix. Paŭlo Johanido.
