Dealing with participles, crazy verb tenses and all that good stuff, I was wondering how might the short sentence, "I have given up the fight for Ido," would be translated into Esperanto (yeah, just wanted to poke a little fun at Idoistoj lango.gif ).

My best guess is this:

Mi cedintas de la batali de Ido.

I know that I could say "I gave up the fight for Esperanto," but I'm just trying to be difficult okulumo.gif

darkweasel (Montri la profilon) 2010-januaro-28 06:58:35

mi rezignis pri la batalo por Ido

*la batali is correct in Ido (where -i is plural), but not in Esperanto.

Ankaŭ eblas:

Mi rezignis la batalon por Ido.

darkweasel:mi rezignis pri la batalo por Ido

*la batali is correct in Ido (where -i is plural), but not in Esperanto.
(while you're completely correct Darkweasel, mea amiko, I thought he was trying to use a verb as a noun, e.g. "I have given up fighting for Ido" - is that what you meant Greyshades? (in which case darkweasel's translation is what you want Greyshades, if I've misunderstood entirely, then my bad lango.gif)

Oh sorry lol I typed in fight in the vortaro and wasn't even really thinking about it.

Mi rezignintas la batalon por Ido.

I suppose that would be the correct way of what I was thinking.

Why not: Mi (jam) rezignis batali por Ido. okulumo.gif

The jam is for emphatic effect, I guess.

Greyshades:
Mi rezignintas la batalon por Ido.
This is theoretically correct, but there's absolutely no reason to use this strange form instead of the simpler rezignis.
