Listen to Arono at Radio Verda. I consider him a good model for pronunciation, and his e's are quite pure.
----------
* I'd maybe even qualify that further, as for an American speaker from the west coast.

Frankouche:as in "CIA"I pronounce CIA like /si aj ej/, and it's an error to /ej/-ize an E.

But make sure you do. Ending vowels in Esperanto carry more information than they do in English - for example, they make the difference between an adjective and an adverb - and so it is much more important to pronounce them correctly and clearly in Esperanto than it is in English. Even if it feels weird to do so, at first.
----------
* If you're familiar with the show South Park, when the police officer character demands that you "Respect mah authoriteh!", he's actually getting the Esperanto "e" sound right, there at the end. Don't make it an "a", like in "cafe", and don't make it an "uh" (or schwa), like Americans lazy mouths tend to make most vowel sounds (as a lazy-mouthed American myself, I feel fully justified in saying that).

Pronounce it like e in rent and you'll be just fine.
