If so, then why use the infinitive there and not instead write:

The object (nian geedziĝon) belongs to okazigi.
klopodi is followed by the infinitive form of a verb (okazigi), that's often possible for intransitive verbs, f.e.:

You can even use 2 intransitive verbs here:
Mi ĉesos klopodi legi la forumon.
