Is there any music that doesn't make you feel like you're listening to your father's music?
Something like Rhihanna or Justin Bieber or Pink. Sorry for the rude comment. It's just I've only found a few songs I've actually liked. Jen was one of them. I thought it was awesome.

jes, E-o komuno still lacks a lot of contemporary music (styles). Don't expect that big choice. But there are some listed at www.vinilkosmo-mp3.com, at the eobo karaokeo arkivejo and here. I personally like the music of Dolchamar.

podkasto.net and Radio Verda often publish news about contemporary E-o music.

I am usually happy with bands and groups that do not sound artificial.
My current favorites are: Kajto, Kaj Tel Plu and Akordo.
They are not exactly Pink, but i still think they are good. I am interested in a wide range of music though.

There was a website that had a number of legally free MP3 downloads of many groups. I just tried then and it doesn't appear to work. Maybe it will work again soon. http://www.musicexpress.com.br/stilo.asp?stilo=36

In the past I still had very often problems to retrieve webpages from the server behind musicexpress.com.br domain. Sometime it did work, sometimes not. But this domain seems to be still alive.

Search vor musicexpress.com.br at registro.br/cgi-bin/whois/

An ping command to musicexpress.com.br gives back 200.196.99.5 resolved IP adress.

I will ask Flo from Vinilkosmo if he knows something about musicexpress.com.br domain.

One time every well tasting chewing gum will have no remaining flavour anymore. In German: "ausgekatscht" Maybe "squashed-out" (flavour) in English(?)

Music scenes live due to further evolution and not of holdup. Music hits (in German often called "Evergreens") are very well suited to build up strong vibrations/party mood at an E-o festo. But (music) culture has to further develop to attract new "members". And new members of any community bring new skills into that particular community.

I don't think there's a shortage of new music in Esperanto. However there is a shortage of diverse musical styles. The fluffy pop-type stuff is generally lacking. There is a little Brazilian fluffy pop music by bands like Merlin, but I think perhaps it caters to Brazilian tastes, it doesn't sound like anything I am used to hearing in the US. R&B seems to be nonexistent. Country is nonexistent (though probably it would be mainly Americans who care about that, I haven't yet heard a complaint about that in this forum).

Incidentally there are very, very few female artists doing Esperanto music. And the music tends to skew towards things you can easily do with a couple friends in a garage (guy with a guitar music, rock/alternative, etc). I wouldn't even call it my father's music. The most dominant music styles seem to be rock music, and folk music (international folk songs translated into Esperanto)

Incidentally, Dolchamar seems to have the whole of their most recent DC available for listening on Youtube, so you can pretty much listen to the whole thing before deciding whether to buy it.

I've been to most of these places. They all sound like 70s and 80s rock music. The reason I like Jen is because of it's strong vocals, Slow pitch and the illustration of feeling within it give it a pointful outlook.
I understand there is new Esperanto music every day. I'm just looking for something with a little soul to it ridulo.gif

Far be it from me to suggest Ĵomart kaj Nataŝa to someone who likes Rihanna and Pink.

But have you listened to their stuff? It's very lyrics-focused.

(I like it but my boyfriend says it "breaks his balls" - rude Italian slang for "boring")

Their daughter Carina has also released a CD now "Carina kantas por vi en Esperanto". An unwieldy title but you might enjoy the music. You can listen to clips here [the description calls it children's music but I think of it more as "all-ages" music; there's nothing particularly 'kiddie' about it]

The acoustic CD of Persone ("Sen") probably still falls into the "80's/90's rock" category but it has some good songs with nice lyrics.

I agree with you that things are very sparse, however. I know that your aim is to listen to music IN Esperanto. But there's another way to use your Esperanto to get good music - find Esperanto speakers from other countries who like some of the same singers that you like. Ask them if there are similar types of artists in their countries that you might like. There's a whole world of music out there, and we in the US are largely unaware of it. There is so much English-language music that we don't feel the need to find out what people are listening to in other languages. It's a shame because some of it is really good; it's as if we talk and talk, and never listen to what someone else has to say. I have found some great foreign music through Esperanto speakers and through listening to foreign radio stations online. Maybe I can't understand the lyrics, but the music is still awesome, and sometimes I can get a translation from the internet (or from another fan).

A little preview for you - if you like Pink, you might like the French group Superbus. Search "superbus" at Youtube and you'll find tons of their music videos.

That seems to be the same situation I noticed at 3x E-o karaokeo events. But these E-o karaokeo were moderated with antetype by Elli/Elisabeth. So, female singers, it's definitly no male matter only, maybe try it out at the next karaoke bar. We will wait for you at the next E-o festo/Party. Example JES. It can be a lot of fun. sal.gif

With some good computer equipment someone can even create it's own orchestra. Probably somewhat special music taste. But I would like mention that baRok` and Amuziko project excample. They use some special hand-made instruments and computer equipment to create their taste of music style. You can do it E-o folks. Doesn't need to be perfect in the beginning. Dolchamar started as a kind of pupils band. And now they make quite good quality music which is published by Vinilkosmo.

I like that sequence at 2:20 min where Patrik (trained singer/musican) tries to bring some profile into musicans beginner trials. He did a lot of efforts to develop the Dolchamar project and motivated the current very good drummer to play into that band.

There excist dozens of lyrics-focused music styles. I.e. Chansons or Hip Hop also are very lyrics-focused. In my opinion every music style tries to convey a kind of message/feeling etc. of the singer/band to the listener.

In German: "Es geht mir auf die Ketten"/ Ĝin nervsegiligas min.

Very strong statement. Thanks a lot for this, erinja.
