I remember hearing a while back that there were difficulties in getting an Esperanto version published. Anyone know if there's any progress on this?

It isn't an issue that I've been following but as I understand it, the translation is complete, the only problem is getting it published (seems very unlikely to happen). If you're able to contact a member of the translation team, you might be able to get an under the table electronic copy of the text.

Radio~!: Officially I believe there is no progress. As far as I understand it, whatever conditions are required to be met for an Esperanto translation to be published are simply impossible to fulfil.
What possible conditions could there be that Esperanto couldn't fulfil, but Latin and Attic Greek could? The mind boggles shoko.gif

Well, if anybody in the know is reading this... sal.gif

I think it's a prestige issue. Attic Greek and Latin have more prestige than Esperanto.

T'wouldn't surprise me if it's because some die-hard fans might think their Latin copy is more magical than the more "alien" Esperanto lango.gif.

Radio~!:bagatelo: I will PM you with the email address of someone I know who *may* have a copy rideto.gif
Thank you very much indeed!

Should they have such a manuscript, I'd be glad to offer my proof-reading skills in preparation for eventual publication! rideto.gif

The manuscript has been complete and fully edited for years now (since 2006, as I understand it).

It looks fairly well dead at this point.

Radio~!:Yes, I heard that they had demanded a sum of money which it would be impossible for Esperantists to raise.
The issue is that publishers are not going to put forth the money and time to publish an edition of ANY book they don't think is going to make any money, and let's face it, there probably just aren't enough Esperanto-speaking HP fans out there to make it worth the publisher's while.
and before you bring up the Faeroese version rideto.gif, I believe the money for that was provided to the publisher so the publishers weren't in for "losing" anything on the deal.

I don't suppose anyone's thought of sending a copy to wikileaks? lango.gif
