Is that my car?
Ĉu tiu estas mia aŭto? (Is it true...that is my car?)
Is that a bird?
Ĉu tio estas birdo?
If so, would, "Is this my car?" be written differently?
Thanks.

Note that:
Chu tio estas mia auto? = Is that (thing) my car?
Chu tiu estas mia auto? = Is that one (out of a group of cars) my car?

Leke:Are these translations correct? You can say:
Is that my car?
Ĉu tiu estas mia aŭto? (Is it true...that is my car?)
Is that a bird?
Ĉu tio estas birdo?
If so, would, "Is this my car?" be written differently?

Ĉu ĝi estas mia aŭto?
Ĉu ĝi estas birdo?

geo63:Yes, and that would mean:
You can say:
Ĉu ĝi estas mia aŭto?
Ĉu ĝi estas birdo?
Is it my car?
Is it a bird?
for 'that' it's better to say 'tio' or 'tiu' as darkweasel explains.
But, I suppose if you use 'ĝi' then it's maybe ok, too. I think there's more flexibility than in English.

Chainy:At least in Mazi these constructions with "ghi" are used a lot.

Thanks for the info.

Chainy:Languages are not codes of words (and esperanto is certainly not English). Ĝi can be used when it is not important if we say this or that.geo63:Yes, and that would mean:

darkweasel:These translations are correct. If you want to convey the idea of proximity expressed by "this" put "chi" before or after the correlative. So like, Ĉu ĉi tiu estas mia aŭto?

Anyhow, you clearly didn't read my full message. You should read through things carefully before you jump onto your high horse.

Chainy:Look, man. You only see the text, not my face, so do not asume too much from the text you read. I am relaxed. It is you, who thinks that a sentence in one language is directly translated into another. Well, it is not. Languages are different. Esperanto and English are quite different and we should always translate by the meaning not by the specific words. There are many frazes which can not be translated from one language into another directly. For instance: polish sentence:geo63:Languages are not codes of words (and esperanto is certainly not English).
