Bonan Tagon,

I'm working on an Esperanto translation of Pokemon Red Version (a thread will be posted at a later date when I'm ready to actively look for assistants, proofreaders, et cetera) and I must say, I'm at a loss when it comes to translating Blue's trademark goodbye, "Smell you later!"

I'm not to the point yet where I can recreate this line using my knowledge of the language, so I have come to ask you for help!

Sincerely,
Vespero

In Esperanto we have the greeting Ĝis revido! which is equivalent to "Till we meet again" or "Au revoir" or "Auf Wiedersehen". It can be used for "See you later". Now flari means to smell, so "Smell you later!" could be Ĝis reflaro!

Ah, for some reason, simply altering Ĝis revido! hadn't crossed my mind. Good idea!

Miland:"Auf wiedersehen"
"Wiedersehen" gets a capital W.

Not all know that nouns in German are written starting with capital letter. But the rest is good, so... "

Dankon, I've corrected it!

If 'Smell you later' was not coined by the TV show The Simpsons, it was definitely popularised by it, and thus picked up by the rest of the English-speaking world, as many of their phrases and coinages have. I don't know how it has been translated into foreign versions of The Simpsons, you could look into those.

Otherwise, I think 'Ĝis la reflaro' looks enough like the normal EO goodbye to be understood well, as Miland said.

it was translated literally to german (ich riech dich später).

In Esperanto radio broadcasts I have heard 'ĝis re-aŭdo'. Miland's suggestion seems very natural and in the spirit of the language.

If you wanted to make it a little more vivid you could use 'snufi'. Mi snufos vin poste.

But 'Ĝis (la) reflaro' is very good.
