Looking to practice some translation and ran into what I think is a straightforward case; however, I'm doubting myself.

The king bellowed, "It is my will!"

La regxo kriis, "Gxi estas mia volo!"

It looks right to me but, I hesitated because volo can also be translated as want.

I'd say the use of "volo" is perfect here.

"mia volo" = "tio, kion mi volas"

I don't know the context in which this phrase is used but in many cases "Tio estas laŭ mia volo" might be a better translation.

"Tia estas mia volo"

Whether to use "tia" or "tio" depends on context and on the intended meaning.

Ĉu via volo fakte estas neŝanĝebla? -- Tia estas mia volo.
Ĉu vi vere volas manĝi 100 kukojn? -- Tio estas mia volo.

Will and want are often the same word.

Ich will...
Ik wil...
Jeg vil..

are all 'I want' with the implication of willing it to be so, rather than want as 'require'. I assume volo is the same.

It is my will the King bellowed

'Tion mi volas!', kri(eg)is la Reĝo.

'Tio estas mia (forta) deziro!', kriis la Reĝo

This is an aggressive utterance, so I'd suggest Jen mia volo!

Your original version was fine, of course.

sudanglo (Å vise profilen) 2016 1 16 12:42:31

You could perhaps get rid of the 'it' entirely.

'Estas mia volo', kriis la Reĝo

(Compare 'Estas bela tago'; 'Estas vero', ŝi diris.)

'Tiel mi volas', kriegis la Reĝo
