Today I went for a walk and decided to try to remember (or work out) the Esperanto word for as many of the things that I saw as I could.

I was stumped by electricity pylon. When I got home I had a look at the web dictionaries that I know about, but still couldn't find a suitable answer. Does anyone have any ideas?

Hi,

I found the word pilono in the Esperanto-German dictionary.

What's an "electricity pylon"? Is that like a "power tower"?

Thanks Gerald rideto.gif

I think so. It's one of those tall things that carry electricity cables overland. Is that what you call them in the US - "power tower"? I'll have to file that along with faucet, sidewalk, hood, trunk et al. Cheers rideto.gif

I was about to ask the same thing... "What's a pylon?" I only know Cylons rido.gif

In the reta vortaro I found pilono as german Pylon, but the definition says:

Portalego de Egiptaj temploj.

I'm not very sure one can mix that with "electricity" okulumo.gif

Maybe the idea of "tower" may work, but not "elektra turo". What about "turo por electra distribuado?"

I think there must be a shorter name...

Amike,

Daniel.

Maybe : Stango, fosto, masto.

Hi,

I also found masto (German: Mast), that should also work, but I wasn't sure whether the word was also used for electricity, I also know that it is used for ships.

OK, now I also found fosto (por kunduktilo) (for the German: Leitungsmast). There are so many different words for it in German that it is difficult to put in the right one in the electronic dictionary.

So I guess Frankouche had the best suggestions already.

I think elektromasto is the right translation.

Thanks very much everyone. I appreciate your efforts and will be looking out for 'elektromastoj' in my future travels rideto.gif
