Okay, so I found subtitles in esperanto for Pan's Labyrinth, and the subtitles look really weird.

Look at the very first symbol, or letter... Then there are ø symbols and æ.

Are these even in Esperanto? I don't recall seeing these symbols in Esperanto... Just ĉ ĝ ĥ ĵ ŝ and ŭ

Yea the problem there is the characters are encoded in Latin-3.. if they are displayed using a regular font they will come out looking weird. Here's how they map:

ĉ ĝ ĥ ĵ ŝ ŭ
æ ø ¶ ¼ þ ý

I may be wrong, but I think if the subtitle data is encoded in Latin-3 then then only way you'll be able to display them is with a Latin-3 compatible font. I have such a font, and if you're able to make use of it I will happily send it to you. Dunno if it will be much use to you though.. are you able to configure the font used by this subtitler thing you're using?

Yes, they have evidently been encoded as ISO-8859-3, possibly because a few movie players do not react well to UTF-8. If you can point me to the place where you downloaded the file, I can download it myself, convert it into Unicode, and put it somewhere so that you can download it again. Feel free to send me a private message if you prefer.

Thanks guys! I appreciate it... No, I can't change the font of the subtitles.

Also, in the movie the mother says "Your brother's not well" and this is how they put it in Esperanto... "Via frato te estas bone"

Is te even a word in Esperanto?

No it will be a typo, should be "ne".

I'd advise you to give mnlg's suggestion a go though, the file can be easily converted to unicode and your player may well handle it without problems.

I hope there are not going to be a bunch of typos in the subtitles... I'm not very good at esperanto and if I see typos, I might not know what is being said.

Sinanthiel: I fixed and corrected the file. I sent you a message with a link to it.
