Well you could say, Mi estas gejo. "I am gay/homosexual."

Ekpublikagejeco? Or Ekpublikgejeco*? Begin public gayness?

*(I'm not sure if the k-g combination would give people trouble, though. As a beginner I'm not sure of the rules of dropping vowels in instances like this.)

Sonja Kisa's dictionary is usually a good source for GLBT-related terms in Esperanto.

She has:
Sonja's dictionary:come out (of the closet) v. (as gay) malkaŝi sian gejecon, (as a lesbian) malkaŝi sian lesbecon, (slang) elŝrankiĝi, burĝoni

Thanks, Erinja! I Googled Sonja Kisa's online dictionary and it looks like a great resource. I've added it to my bookmarks. rideto.gif

I have already heard elŝrankiĝo, and I would use it.

I think the rule for dropping vowels when combining words is to do whatever makes the word easier to pronounce - in this case, I think keeping the vowel would be preferred.

However, I don't have a source for this, so I'd double-check with someone who is more knowledgable/experienced.

Hey, can you share the link to this dictionary? I wasn't aware of it.
The link that woodyshakti sent doesn't work for me :/
