what is your suggestion for: the action when someone makes signs to ask a lift somewhere (dum petveturado).

Benson has peti veturon.

Taciturn_ (Montri la profilon) 2008-decembro-24 18:40:35

hm, then i`d say : petkapti ,- from petveturi + kapti.

Taciturn_:hm, then i`d say : petkapti ,- from petveturi + kapti.
The problem is that petkapti sounds like a request to someone to catch something. Possibly veturpeti might be suitable, but staying with peti veturon may be simpler.

I just noticed petveturi in the Esperanto forum - that might be best if what you mean is 'hitchhike', emphasising the journey, rather than one request.

Yeah,i agree that "veturpeti" sounds much better that "petkapti".
Petveturi - pri veturado, while veturpeti - pri : peto pri lasi vin eniri ies auxotn por veturi kune.Do estas malsimilo inter vortoj kaj ili ambaux estas necesaj.
Somebody do translate it into english, please.

I would say that veturpeti = request a lift (i.e. one lift), whereas petveturi = make a journey (possibly in several stages or even without a fixed destination), requesting a lift at each stage. The best short equivalent I can think of, for petveturi is "hitchhike".
