I had a lot more success with this one than the last one. I'm so impressed by the learning curve of this language.

The only one I sure about was:

Lia famo disvastiĝis en la tuta mondo.
"His fame [disbecame] in all the world."

"His fame disappeared worldwide."? How does that sound?

Plij dankon,
Mitĉell.

The root VAST- has nothing to do with visibility. Therefore, it sounds incorrect. rideto.gif

Think of the meanings of each of the parts:

dis- (disperse, scatter about)
vast- (wide)
iĝ- (become)
-is (past tense verb marker)

So, literally "disperse-wide-became", or, in regular English, "became widespread".

dis- doesn't mean out (outwidened would be elvastiĝi), it means scattered in all directions.

Prymal:Lia famo disvastiĝis en la tuta mondo.
Disvastiĝi means "spread". So this means "His fame spread in the whole world." You could also say in Esperanto Lia famo disvastiĝis tra la tuta mondo, "His fame spread through the whole world".

'Twas a joke on how English would handle the same thing. "Out" does not conform to any one Esperanto radical, obviously.

Think "Embiggen".
