pikolas:How could I say "so that"?A note to the OP: tiel refers to the manner in which he bought the newspaper, rather than what it was for. mnlg's example is saying, "I bought a newspaper in such a way that I could read the news." But if you want to indicate just the purpose of buying the newspaper and not how it was done, then of course you can use por instead of tiel. Both pairs are useful constructions worth taking note of.
