sergejm:Here is an example, there 'nur' and 'sola' meet together:
'La straton lumigis nur unu sola laterno'
(I don't know how precisely to translate it to English)
Couldn't it be: "Only one lone latern illuminated the street"?

In that context sola means "by itself", "without a companion" or "alone".

That works. I think I'd translate it as, "Only one solitary light lit the street." Thus, "only" is "nur" and "solitary" is "sola."

"The street was lighted by only one single lantern." Other words would also work in place of single such as lone, sole, isolated, solitary, lonely, etc.
